A Perfect Reflection

The full moon and the sea go together so well. This is despite no intrinsic bond between them. I suppose the tide is affected by the moon. That has to account for something.

This may be why the ritual works. You need a full moon, and a clear sky. A still ocean that means the moon does not wobble on the waves. A perfect reflection. One you could row to if required. And you will.

You might assume the moon on the water is a simple optical illusion. No different to shining a torch into a mirror. This is incorrect. If you row out to the right spot, a huge silver disc really does exist on the skin of the water. The fish will be in love. They will swarm underneath, their scales creating a matching shape underneath. Their actions will rock your boat.

When you are brave enough, plunge in. The writhing sea life might freak you out for a minute. You will certainly get the terrible sensation of crashing down with no way to breathe. But that will be replaced by a wonderful feeling of upwards motion. Soon the water will be nothing but a liquid highway.

You will end up in the caverns of the moon. Many of the fish will join you. It is a beautiful place. Full of diamonds. Worth a look round before heading back.

But the place is not empty. Think why the connection exists between the moon and the sea. Think why the fish swim through, but do not return.

Something has to eat.
